Eating Disorders

In the news this morning there was a program on eating disorders. They talked about a ten year old that had anorexia, she was lucky enough to get treatment and she is getting better now. Do you think that this is a big problem in our country? What can be do to change this problem?

You can view the story at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/

Yes, I think this a pretty big problem in out country because of the media and the roles it plays in childrens lives. Usually young girls look in magazines or on TV and see super skinny movie stars so they think that's how they should be. That's just wrong. I think to change it our media would have to put a negative emphasis on anorexic celebrities, which has happened somewhat.

There is a big problem in America with eating disorders and not thinking you are think enough. It is due to the media protraying extremely skinny women. Most of these women are unhealthy because of their size. It is important for parents to tell their children this and tell them they are skinny enough. The public has demand that these negative images of models be stopped and those getting skinny by eating disorders be looked down upon.

Yes, it is a problem. Parents should make their kids eat. It is a very big health risk you if don't eat, it just isn't healthy for you.

Yes it is a huge problem because now more and more people are thinking that there not skinny enough to be cool and stuff like that. I think we can stop this by ot worring about what our wieght is and just all be nice to each other. We can also stop seling these diet pills and advertiving diets that dont really work.

I think that is a big problem. The people on TV and in magazine, you see these skinny skinny girls. People want to be like that because that is what is "pretty". The only way to change this is to show what is wrong about anorexics and eating disorders.

Yeah, I think this is a big problem and this girl is pretty luck to get treatment for it. People should watch what they eat or actually eat and don't starve yourself. People should stop hurting there lives and go out and exercise

Media is making people think that they are never good enough. Magazine editors change the pictures to make people look better then they really are and when people see this they look fat. This is a big problem.

Anorexia isnt heard of as much around here, but it is a big problem around the world. Girls and boys are influenced so much by the things they see on tv and by thier peers. They see people who are skinny and they strive to be the same. Kids will take unhealthy, dangerous risks just to obtain perfection. They don't see the risks involved because its almost like they are brainwashed to think skinny is the only way to go. Our media is so corrupt and it needs to change.

Yes, I think it is becoming a big problem. I think that there is too much media portraying very skiny figures in which many Americans (girls in particular) that look up to these people. We like to get not have to work to be skinny instead they just don't eat. I think that we can change this but making everyone more aware of it.

We have some eating disorders becaus epeople want to look "fit" without doing any work. People are just lazy so they assume they can do nothing and look great. It really just makes them worse off than they were before.

I think that it is a huge problem in our country. So many young people are getting mixed signals from the media. They show all these super skinny girls or super buff guys and if you don't look like that, you are sort of a loser. In some places though, you are told that you should just be yourself, and if that is a siz 10, you are still just fine. We need to show kids that you don't have to look just like everyone in the media to be accepted. Often, the people in magazines are touched up, so that they look perfect. Even the people in real life who are in the magazines, don't look as perfect as they look in the magazines.

Its a huge problem. People in the media are very skinny, like too skinny and it makes normal people like you and i think we have to get skinny. We dont need to get so skinny though. I mean, yeah we need to stay healthy but being as skinny as a twig is just terrible.
