Right around noon today, if all goes as planned, a spacecraft called Messenger will swoop past the planet Mercury and begin two days of unprecedented picture-taking and data-collecting.
The flyby, the first visit to Mercury in more than 33 years by an emissary from Earth, will mark a key moment in a NASA mission that will ultimately place the first satellite into orbit around the tiny planet that sits closest to the sun. Full story at TheWashingtonPost. com
What does this tells us about the technology that we now hold and what could it mean for the future.

This tells us that we have had huge improvements in technology. I think that in the future, we will have so many different types of technology that we will have no idea what to do with. I think that in the future, we will be able to do many more things with all of the technology that we will have. If we have all this technology now, I can't imagine all of the technology that we will have in the future.
It means that our technology now is better designed than before. If they can stand that intense heat for 2 days and work properly after the mission is done that means that everything we do will be more effective in different situations. In the future they will probably be able to make technology that could go past pluto and explore father beyond. They can also probably go closer to the sun and get better pictures.
Wow!! That means that we have improved our technology so much. We will keep improving our technology so that we will have a lot of different things to do with planets. If we can do this stuff now, it will be exciting what we can do in the future. I think we could possible live on different planets some days. That would be extremely fun to see or even do.
It means that we have alot of technology and that it has advanced alot in the past 100 years. We are no able to go a long way in space while at the beginning of the 20 century we couldnt even fly. So this proves alot of what we can do now a days.
So this proves how far we have advanced.
That we have very advanced technolgy now. I can't even imagine how advanced the technology will be in a couple of years.
It means we have better tecnology and we are getting more advance. We can explore further into space and learn more about the universe.
It shows how much improvement is going on at NASA. We are getting more technology and better technology. They will be able to do more missions and get closer to planets. If they can get a satelitte that close to the sun they should be able to get people to live on Mars.
If we keep up this technology, we should be able to make it into other galaxys. Going and finding other life in other solar systems would be really cool. With the technology that we have now it should be no problem.
It us(America) that we rock and not only did we beat Russia to the moon, we beat them to Mercury. Pretty soon we'll be living on Pluto...which is a planet by the way.
It tells us that our technology is improving. In the future, I think that they will find more and more inventions. Many some day, we will even live on different planets and explore new things.
This is very importantto our NASA program. It shows that our technology is far better than it used to be. This means that we will gather more accurate imformation about Mercury. With this information maybe someday we can travel there and mine for minerals and possibly have a colony there but that is a ways off.
This tells us that we have made alot of improvements in technology that make us able to do this. If we can do this now, in the future maybe we will be able to see a virtual, live view of other planets and see even more things that we can't today. I think it will be pretty exciting to see what we can do in the future. Some of the things we can do today even surprise me.
Our technology is way advanced. We are going to probably find out way more than what we already know in the future. Technology will make our lives better and worse.
This shows us that our technology has advanced a lot. It could mean that we can do more spacecraft flights to different planets or other things. If we are doing all this now, in the future there will be a lot more technology.
This shows how awesome America's technology is. We have crazy awesome technology and are way more andvanced than Canada. Hence, we deserve to fly by Mercury because Canada does not. Eat it, Canada! (and put some maple syrup on that, ya mounties!)
it tells us that we are imporving a lot in the fielkd of technology, and that we might be able to find life or something of other importance on the other planets. it could open many doors.
