Nature vs Nurture

There is a new study out that states that obesity is due to complex genetic make-up of an individual. But is it really the genetic make-up or do we just eat too much? Nature vs. Nurture

I think some of it could be genetically related with your metalbolism rate and how your body digests food. However, I think the big cause of obesity are your habits. If you eat a lot of bad food and don't exercise you are probably going to gain weight. This starts at a young age as your parents kind of decide that for you.

I belive it just the people who eat alot. It's how there metalbolism is and how they will look after they eat a lot. I know sometimes there is cloths that makes people look fat, but not in make-up. That is kind of weird.

I agree with kelli. It could be both. Genetics could have something to do with it but i think the larger part of it is the way we treat our bodies. By eating to much and not doing enough to burn the extra calories. But anybody could make an argument for it.

Well i think it can be both of them. If you eat alot and dont exercise, you can gain alot of weight. Sometimes it depends on your metabolism.

I think that there could be a possiblility of it being genetic, but along with that, it could be the example that your parents are setting for you. It can lean both ways. THE END

It is a little bit of both. Because some people exercise and watch what they eat and they are still a little larger. But some people choose to fat by just keep on eating and not caring about what they are doing. So i think it is a little bit of both.

I think that it is both. If can be genetically because your health is somewhat determinded by genetics. But, if you eat too much food that isnt good for you, and you dont get any physical activity, you will gain weight.

I think that it depends how fast your metalbolism is. Also on what foods you eat does play a factor. Some people have really fast metalbolism and doesn't really matter what they eat. But, most people it depends on what they eat and if they exercise or not.

No i don't think it is usually because of the genetic makeup. Some people probably do have the genes to make them larger than normal, but most people don't. I think most obesity is easily overcome, but people are lazy and eat a lot of bad food.

It think it is a little of both. I think it would help some people to have a higher metabolism. However, people to eat too much now days causing obesity.

THere are some people who have a genetic disorder where it doesn't matter what they do, they'll still gain more wieght then other people. For the most part however, we dpon't know when to stop eating. Parents shuld watch their kids when they are young and make sure that they are staying fit.

I think that obsesity is related to your own personal habits. Your metabolism may be slow, but you can choose not to eat as much or to exercise. To say your metabolism caused obesity is just an excuse for someone being too lazy to workout or the mental toughness to not eat as much.

I think it could have a little to do with it but not everything. It has more to do with the wqay you were raised and your habits. It also has to do with the food we eat today like mcdonalds and burger king.

I think it could be both. Most of the time it is more along the line of nature though. There is a lot of fat people the have really skinny kids or maybe even the opposite of that.

I think that if you parents are big it could be somewhat genetic that you are bigger than normal but it also comes down to how much you eat or what you eat. If you eat junk food all the time of course ur gunna be huge. If you eat right and work out you can be average.

It could be both. Genetics could be a big part of how we deal with our bodies. People can eat just to deal with depression which will make them gain weight to ease the pain that they could be going to. And your metabolism is a big part of it too. If people eat alot and don't exercise that is their own fault because they need to make the effort to work of what you eat.

I think that genetic make-up can have a part of it. Like some people are just like that. Also, usually if the parents are big, their kids are overweight too. But this can also be just because of unhealthy living. Parents are kids role models and if they don't eat right and exercise, the kid probably won't either. Mainly obesity is because of overeating and not exercising.

I think that it isn't really that people eat too much. It really all depends on how fast their metabolism is. Because I eat a lot of food and I am really skinny, and I have fast metabolism. People should eat proper portions of food and eat plenty of fruits and vegies throughout the day though because that will also help to keep them from getting obese.

It depends. People like me dont eat a whole lot and still am kind of chunky. ON the other hand, some people eat a truckload and dont gain any wait at all. Nature... However people that try and stay skinny, are, and some who eat themselves to death, are fat, and that is nurture. You be the judge
